Guimaras reports no major damage from ‘Quinta’

JORDAN, Guimaras – The island province of Guimaras incurred no major damage or losses in agriculture, fishery and infrastructure from Typhoon “Quinta”, according to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).

The municipalities of Jordan, Buenavista, Nueva Valencia, San Lorenzo, and Sibunag reported only minor inconveniences such as flashfloods that receded quickly, said PDRRMO chief Teresita Siason.

No families were evacuated or displaced and no houses or buildings were damaged, she added.

The PDRRMO also has not received reports that fishing vessels or passenger motorboats were damaged.

Boat operators were warned early about “Quinta” so they were able to prepare, said Siason.

She, however, confirmed that passenger motorboats plying the Iloilo City – Guimaras route temporarily cancelled trips on Monday morning. They resumed their operation yesterday morning.

The PDRRMO also received reports that strong winds of “Quinta” toppled some banana tree.

Early typhoon warning played a big part in Guimaras’ being generally unscathed by “Quinta”, said Siason.

“Barangay residents, most especially in coastal areas, and fishermen were able to prepare early,” she pointed out.

It was also good that rains were mild and not torrential, added Siason./PN
