PBA PH Cup: Belga fuels RoS past Barangay Ginebra in OT

MANILA – Beau Belga anchored Rain or Shine (RoS) Elasto Painters past Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings in overtime of their 2020 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup showdown at the AUF Sports Arena and Cultural Center in Pampanga last night.

Trailing 76-78 during the onset of the extended quarter, Belga assisted a basket by Borboran to level the score. He then converted a layup and three-pointer to surge RoS 83-78.

After a conversion by Kings’ Stanley Pringle trimmed the deficit to 80-83, Jewel Ponferrada came up with a game-sealing floater and established an 85-80 lead for Elasto Painters with five seconds left in the match.

Belga finished the heated showdown with double-double 20 points and 10 rebounds while Borboran added conference-best 16 markers for RoS.

Negrense James Yap also had his best game in the PBA Bubble with 13 points while Jayvee Mocon registered 12 markers for the Painters.

With the victory, the Elasto Painters moved to solo second place in the leaderboard with a 4-1 win-loss slate.

Ginebra, on the other hand, dropped to 4-2 as Earl Scottie Thompson’s 21 points, 10 rebounds and five assists plus Stanley Pringle’s 20 markers were not enough to carry the multi-titled team.

In the first PBA game, the Alaska Aces managed to turn things around and slam TerraFirma Dyip, 99-96.

Down by as much as 14 points in the opening half, the Aces started leaning on the exploits of Jvee Casio and Maverick Ahanmisi in the third frame for a 65-59 advantage.

After three quarters, TerraFirma went to-to-toe with the aces in the final frame and gained a 96-95 lead via Eric Camson’s triple, but the Aces responded with a layup from Casio which turned things around again at 97-96. Ice-cold free throws by Ahanmisi and Jesper Ayaay then sealed the deal for the Alaska.

The Aces’ improved their win-loss record to 4-3 while Dyip remained winless after five outings.
