NegOcc city reopens borders

BACOLOD City – The city government of San Carlos in Negros Occidental lifted border restrictions put in place to prevent the spread of coronavirus  disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Mayor Renato Gustilo said border controls installed in barangays Buluangan, Punao and Prosperidad were lifted since Saturday, Oct. 31.

But this doesn’t mean that residents can leave the city anytime they want, according to Gustilo.

“Travels should be of valid reasons, especially to restricted areas, which require residents to get travel authorities from their agency,” the mayor explained.

He urged the public to not lower their guard and heed public health protocols set by the government.

In his latest move, Gustilo cited the assessment of the city’s COVID-19 Incident Management Team.

The mayor recently met retired Major General Melquiades Feliciano, Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) chief implementer for the Visayas.

During the meeting, local officials agreed to set up an Emergency Operations Center that will focus on containing local COVID-19 transmission.

Being part of the jurisdiction of Negros Occidental, San Carlos is under modified general community quarantine.

In mid-October, San Carlos prohibited non-essential travel among its residents due to rising cases of COVID-19.

As of Nov. 2, the metro had a total of 278 confirmed cases, 115 of which are active, 150 recovered and 13 deaths./PN
