ILOILO City – The average daily count for new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the city significantly dropped in the past seven days.
Three to four weeks ago, daily cases averaged at 46, data from the city’s COVID-19 Team showed. But from Oct. 27 to Nov. 2, this figure dropped by half, or only 23 cases a day.
This downward trend showed the city government’s efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19 are gradually paying off, according to Mayor Jerry Treñas.
While commending the Ilonggos for strictly following minimum health standards, Treñas reiterated that they should be consistent in practicing proper wearing of facemask and face shield in public, observing physical distancing and frequent handwashing.
Meanwhile, the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit of the City Health Office reported that 90 percent of COVID-19 patients have recovered.
As of Oct. 31, the metro had a total of 3,788 cases, 329 of which were active, 3,377 recovered and 82 died.
“This has been a long and tiring battle but I am confident we will heal as one city. I am grateful for the overwhelming support of my constituents, volunteers, frontliners, and even people outside the city in fighting this pandemic,” said Treñas.
The city mayor assured residents that the city government will continue to look for ways and means to flatten the curve.
