United City FC snatch solo lead past Maharlika in PFL

MANILA – United City Football Club surged to solo first place in the 2020 Philippines Football League (PFL) following a 10-0 domination over Maharlika Manila Football Club at the PFF National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite on Tuesday night.

Robert Lopez Mendy and Jose Elmer Porteria each had hat tricks, Mike Ott had a brace while Bienvenido Marañon and Stephan Schrock each converted goal for the defending champions United City FC.

Ott opened the scoring sheet for United City FC with a close range hit from a cross by Marañon at the 16th minute. Ott returned the favor as he assisted Marañon for a close range attack three minutes later for a 2-0 advantage.

United City notched their third goal at the 33rd minute as Schrock beat two defenders from inside the box before scoring past the defense while the fourth goal came before the end of the opening half with Porteria tapping in the ball.

United City continued their dominance in the second half with three consecutive goals from Lopez Mendy at the 49th, 57th and 63rd mark as the defending champions widened the lead to 7-0.

Porteria connected his second goal of the game at the 71st minute from the bottom right followed by an Ott bucket at the 83rd minute from a Lopez Mendy pass before Porteria completed his hat trick.

United City FC now has nine points after winning all of its three matches so far. Maharlika Manila, on the other hand, has three points on one win and two losses./PN
