ILOILO City – So far, 14,437 residents of Western Visayas diagnosed with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have recovered from the viral disease, data from the Department of Health (DOH) showed.
Of the total recoveries, Bacolod City has 4,525; Iloilo City, 3,691; Negros Occidental, 3,340; Iloilo province, 1,707; Capiz, 797; Guimaras, 168; Aklan, 143; and Antique, 66, according to the latest case bulletin of DOH Region 6.
The region’s total number of cases (cumulative), meanwhile, is now at 17,864.
For the active cases, there are currently 2,979 patients being monitored.
Broken down, majority of the active cases are in Negros Occidental with 1,578 followed by Iloilo province with 530; Iloilo City, 364; Bacolod City, 360; Capiz, 101; Guimaras, 20; Aklan, 19; Antique, seven.
On Monday, DOH Region 6 logged 145 new confirmed cases, 104 new recovered and four new deaths.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organization Western Pacific Region emphasized that COVID-19 is a reminder that “our collective health is based on individual actions.”
It stressed that everyone must continue to make every effort to build and sustain the new normal as lives depend on it.
It further reiterated that in the new normal, one still needs to protect oneself against the virus by practicing, among others, the following protocols:
* wash hands frequently
* cover nose when coughing and sneezing
* avoid crowded places and limit time in enclosed spaces
* keep a distance of at least one meter from others
* isolate yourself from others of feeling unwell and seek care, if needed/PN
