Bacolod delays construction of flagship projects

BACOLOD City – Delayed by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic this year, the city government’s three flagship projects will proceed next year.

These three multimillion-peso projects are the Bacolod Museum, Bacolod MassKara Coliseum and Bacolod South Terminal.

According to Councilor Dindo Ramos, the city government targeted to build the museum and the coliseum this year on a 7.4-hectare property in barangays Tangub and Alijis donated by Vallacar Transit, Inc., Yanson Realty Development Corp. and businesswoman Olivia Yanson. The terminal, meanwhile, will be built on a 1.5-hectare adjacent lot.

Ramos said he will file a resolution in the Sangguniang Panlungsod requesting the City Engineer’s Office to submit a report in relation to these pending projects.

The budget for the museum will come from the national government which Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri pledged.

Zubiri said the structure is not simply a museum but will have an auditorium where events, meetings and other activities can be held.

The structure will have a leaf design. It is not a traditional museum but a combination of historical and modern design, a little version of the Sydney Opera House.

The coliseum, on the other hand, has a budget of P800 million from the P1.7-billion loan of the city government from the Development Bank of the Philippines.

Other projects in the pipeline are the P350-million development of the Progreso Village Relocation Site, the P350-million site and facility development of the city-run Bacolod City College; and the P200-million roads and bridges construction program.

Ramos said the budget for the terminal will be sourced out from the development fund of the city./PN
