I WOKE up from a long nightmare and saw that in the light of day Democracy had conquered disorder and it was not fake news.
Not only is it pleasing to see President-Elect Joe Biden but also, and uniquely, Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris, a woman of color.
The future looks rosy and colorful and it’s about time.
Life is balanced, with the great speech by Biden against the disturbing tweets of soon-to- be-ex-president, Donald Trump.
You cannot buy a victory, nor sue yourself into the role. You must be given it by the people – a reality the loser Trump must accept before he skulks back to his golf course.
The complexities of the US electoral system have caused concerns and some delay and it may be time to consider how to simplify it so that it means the people, all of them, can make the decision and not a court.
It is time to look to the future and consign the few miles built of the “great, beautiful wall” to rubble as a symbol of the Trump presidency. The economy needs to be built up and COVID knocked down. The education system needs to be strong, equitable, available to all and preferably truly free. It can be done!
There is now hope and it is time for President-Elect Biden to build a better, united country. Good luck!

Vote and don’t shoot
In the numerous articles about the US election there was one recent item that seemed disturbing – gun stores are running out of ammunition.
This could be good news as those unhappy with whatever the outcome is won’t be able to buy any ammunition although it also could be disturbing in that they have already bought this ammunition in case of a result they don’t support.
For a country that is the land of the free, there should be no use of weaponry in the decision or acceptance of an election result.
Vote and then accept the result without using lawyers or guns to try and get the result you wanted. Please, there have been enough deaths already in America recently.
The same ideal should also apply in all countries as the use of violence seems worldwide.

I won, for a while
Donald Trump talked of claiming a victory if the early numbers went his way.
I like this approach as my football team led at the end on the first quarter – victory assured, although later quarters were less positive.
I had the first two numbers of the lotto – time to spend the money, although not all subsequent numbers matched mine.
My racehorse was leading as it entered the straight – time to collect the cup, even though a few sprinted past soon after.
I look for the positive in life too but I’m not claiming victory till someone else, who is credible, confirms it.
Aim for a win, hope for a win, although be ready to congratulate the winner if it is someone else.

Buy some more crayons
I’m tired of seeing all those maps colored red and blue only. Maybe it’s time for someone to give the children involved some new crayon colors to use. Then there might be less dummy spits, lies, threats and name-calling. and they can learn to share.
Lead by example but make sure it is a good example.

Tears of a clown
The latest version of a 1960’s song is “It’s my party and I can sue if I want to” although in the long term it will be “It’s my party and I can cry if I want to.” (dfitzger@melbpc.org.au/PN)
