31 Alimodian households locked down

ILOILO – Thirty-one households in Zone 2 and Zone 4 in Barangay Binalud, Alimodian, Iloilo were placed on a three-day lockdown.

Four cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) were recorded in the neighborhood, according to Vice Mayor Ian Kenneth Alfeche, chair of the town’s COVID Command Center.

“May ara sila nga duha ka active cases tapos may duha ka deaths. Lunsay mag-asawa ang natapikan,” Alfeche told Panay News.

The index case was a male resident of Barangay Binalud. He was brought to a hospital in Iloilo City on Nov. 1 after an accident at home, said Alfeche.

As part of the hospital’s protocol, the patient was required to undergo swabbing.

The next day, his test result came out – positive for COVID-19. But hours later, the patient expired.

This prompted the local government unit (LGU) to roll out contact tracing. There, it was found out that the man’s wife also got infected.

The LGU then widened the scope of its contact tracing.

On Nov. 6, they were able to tract at least 36 persons who may have been exposed to the COVID-19 positive case.

Of the 36 people, a couple tested positive for the illness.

The asymptomatic wife was brought to a hospital in Iloilo City. On Nov. 11, she died while being treated due to complications.

Alfeche disclosed that the two casualties were both diabetic.

While the Binalud neighborhood is under lockdown, Alfeche said the affected residents werenot allowed to go out of their houses for the meantime, even to buy provisions.

The lockdown began Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 11 and will end Saturday afternoon.

The LGU supplied food and water to every household as well as their other needs, he added.

Wary of further COVID-19 transmission, Alfeche urged residents of nearby villages to restrict their movements.

As of Nov. 12, Alimodian had a total of 51 COVID-19 cases – three are active, 46 recovered and two died./PN
