ROXAS City – The National Food Authority-Capiz exceeded its target in palay procurement by over 400 percent for the month of October.
According to NFA Capiz Information Officer Mary Christie Hari-on, a total of 125,187 bags of 50-kilogram per bag of clean and dry palay were bought by the food agency here for the month of October which represented a 404-percent accomplishment.
The October palay procurement target is 31,000 bags, she said.
“The palay procurement accomplishment in October this year is 1.6 percent higher compared to the 123,189 bags bought during the same month last year,” Hari-on said, adding that October was the peak of palay harvest in the province of Capiz.
She said that due to the low farm gate price of palay that ranges from P11 to P14 per kilogram, farmers opted to sell their palay to NFA warehouses which buys clean and dry palay at P19 per kilogram.
From January to Oct. 31, 2020, NFA Capiz already procured a total of 301,943 bags of clean and dry palay from local farmers.
Meanwhile, NFA-Capiz Officer-In-Charge Herrielle Jumagbas encouraged farmers to bring their clean and dry palay to NFA for a better return on their investment.
