MANILA – Negrense boxer JayR Raquinel hopes to have a shot against Japanese fighter Junto Nakatani, who recently captured the World Boxing Organization (WBO) world flyweight championship at the expense of Filipino boxer Giemel Magramo.
Raquinel’s manager Brico Santig said the Candoni, Negros Occidental-native fighter is ready to challenge the undefeated Japanese boxer and has kept himself in shape despite being inactive this year.
Raquinel, a current Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) flyweight champion, is a world-ranked flyweight boxer by the World Boxing Council, International Boxing Federation and World Boxing Association.
“I am hopeful that the WBO will take a look at his skills and give him a shot at a duel against Nakatani,” Santig said in an interview with Fight News Asia’s Sharma Devaiah. “Seeing Giemel’s defeat has intensified JayR’s desire to step back and fight Nakatani. He vowed to perform his best.”
Raquinel has been dubbed as “The Japanese Killer” after his dominating performances against three fighters Takuya Kogawa, Shun Kosaka and Keisuke Nakayama.
Boasting 12 wins with only one defeat, the Negrense boxer is known for his knockout power as nine of his victories came from it, of which three of them were Japanese fighters./PN
