BACOLOD City – The provincial government of Negros Occidental and the Philippine Coast Guard-Southern Visayas district (PCG) will be sending relief aid to victims of recent typhoons that battered Luzon earlier this month.

Provincial Administrator Atty. Rayfrando Diaz said the provincial government will send P1 million each to local government units in Albay and Catanduanes. The cash assistance was directly requested by Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson.

Diaz, however, pointed out the financial assistance is still being discussed by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council. The fund is targeted to be given to victims of typhoon “Rolly.”

Additional funds are also being prepared for victims of typhoon “Ulysses.” An emergency meeting would be called in order to act on the allocation request.

Diaz also extended sympathies to the typhoon victims on behalf of the provincial government.

Meanwhile, PCG-Southern Visayas district commander, Captain Eduardo De Luna, said they are also accepting donations – this time for the victims of the heavy flooding in the Cagayan Valley and Bicol regions.

De Luna said they are specifically asking for donations of non-perishable food such as canned goods, powdered milk and rice. The local PCG is also asking for bottled drinking water.

The PCG commander said all gathered supplies will then be picked up by PCG vessels and will be shipped to the affected areas.
De Luna said Negrenses may drop their donations at their nearest PCG sub-station, or at the PCG-Southern Visayas district headquarters on San Patricio Boulevard in Barangay Banago in this city./PN
