MANILA – Negrense boxer Aston Palicte will aim to stretch his winning run as he faces Reymark Taday in “The Restart” fight card at the Sanman Gym in General Santos City tonight.
The Bago City, Negros Occidental-native wants to score a follow up to his second round stoppage triumph over Jonathan Francisco last February, just before the outbreak of the new coronavirus.
The 29-year-old Palicte was on a comeback trail after struggling last year where he lost to Kazuto Ioka for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) world super flyweight title and was stunned by fellow Negrense Renz Rosia.
Palicte will be entering the eight-round bantamweight division match with a 26-4-1 win-loss-draw ring record, including 22 stoppage wins while the 26-year-old Taday has a 10-12-1 slate with five knockout wins.
Apart from Palicte and Taday, also slugging out in the closed door boxing card will be Marlon Tapales and Eden Sonsona, Dave Apolinario and Bonjun Loperez, Michael Casama and Vergil Degoma, and Joey Canoy and Jovab Lucas.
Sanman Promotions CEO Jim Claude Manangquil said he was delighted with the return of boxing even in closed door setting after months of inactivity due to COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are happy to be back on air to give you non-stop Pinoy Boxing action. Sanman has made name by pitting out the bravest Filipino warriors against each other and against foreign opponents,” Manangquil said.
“Since it is a closed door fight card, matches will be streamed at Sanman Promotions’ Facebook page on Saturday evening. We always guarantee a night of knockouts,” he added./PN
