VETERAN gunner Klay Thompson will miss his second consecutive National Basketball Association (NBA) season for the Golden State Warriors after suffering a season-ending Achilles tendon tear on his right leg.
In their social media post, the Warriors confirmed Thompson’s injury following the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) test performed on the All-Star guard on Thursday (Friday in the Philippines).
“Thompson suffered the injury in a workout yesterday in Southern California. He is expected to miss the 2020-21 season,” the Warriors said.
This will be the second consecutive NBA season without Thompson after sitting out the entire 2019-2020 NBA season due to an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear on his left knee.
Thompson, a one-time Olympic and FIBA World Cup gold medal winner, hurt his left knee during Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals against the eventual champions Toronto Raptors.
Meanwhile, to make up for the absence of Thompson, the Warriors would acquire guard Kelly Oubre Jr. from the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for future draft considerations.
Oubre, who arrived to the Thunder earlier this week in a trade that sent Chris Paul to the Phoenix Suns, was an all-around contributor during his stints with the Washington Wizards and the Suns./PN
