ILOILO – The municipality of Guimbal logged 18 indigenous cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) yesterday, so far its highest number of local infections recorded in a single day.
These latest cases were all asymptomatic. They were part of the 41 close contacts of a COVID-19 patient in the town, according to the Municipal Health Office. They had their specimens collected for testing on Sunday.
In a statement on Thursday, Vice Mayor Jennifer Garin-Colada said the local cases were detected in 12 households in a neighborhood in a barangay, which she did not identify.
“All of the 18 cases were quarantined in our isolation facility. They are being monitored by personnel of the Rural Health Unit,” said Colada.
To prevent the virus from spreading, Colada is set to enforce stringent community quarantine measures in the neighborhood today.
“Let’s not take COVID-19 for granted for its consequences are hard to handle. Please cooperate and follow the minimum public health protocols,” Colada appealed to her constituents.
As of Nov. 26, the town had a total of 98 COVID-19 cases – 30 of which were active cases, 64 recovered and four died./PN
