Rody still willing to be inoculated with COVID vaccine

MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte is still willing to be inoculated with a coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine once it becomes available, according to his spokesperson Harry Roque.

Kung papayagan ng FDA, I think mangunguna ang Presidente. Nag-volunteer siya. Gustong-gusto na niya,” Roque said in his virtual presser. “Willing siya magpa-inject pero hindi naman siguro live sa TV. Ginawa namang spectacle ang Presidente.”

Until now, the Philippines has yet to approve a COVID-19 vaccine for public use.

Meanwhile, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III is also willing to be inoculated with the COVID-19 vaccine to allay fears about safety and efficacy.

“So ang Secretary of Health po natin at ang buong Department of Health, if I may say, bukas tayo kung kailangan tayo mauuna sa pagpapabakuna ay magpapabakuna po tayo,” Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said during a virtual briefing.

She added that Duque was “open to that” and that the vaccines that will be allowed to enter the country have already passed Phase 3 clinical trials, which meant that “the vaccines are safe” and its efficacy “tested.”

“The Philippines will also study the vaccines through the vaccine expert panel and the FDA,” Vergeire said. “So wala po tayong dapat ikabahala para sa bakuna na ito,” she said, adding that the efficacy level should be high and within the target percentage.”/PN
