Negrense jins bag 12 medals in online taekwondo tilt

MANILA – Taekwondo jins from Negros Taekwondo Union-Tigers New Gen showcased their wares during the 2020 Smart/MVP Sports Foundation National Taekwondo Inter-School Speed Kicking Championship.

The players of the Bacolod City-based stable took home a total of 12 medals including five golds, one silver and six bronze medals.

The NTU-Tigers New Gen hauled all of their gold medals in the first day of competition last Saturday courtesy of Gadiel Lopez, Dasal Moriah Beatingo, Cipriano Lumanog, Wynnonah Kiarra Chavez and Theressha Avanceña.

Lopez got his gold in the grade school boys yellow belt category while Beatingo got hers on the distaff side. Lumanog won the grade school boys red belt while Chavez ruled the grade school girls red belt and Avanceña won gold in toddler girls blue belt.

The lone silver medal of the NTU-Tigers New Gen was from Julio Miguel Zapata, who ranked second in the cadet blackbelt (feather-light) category.

Winning the bronze medals, on the other hand, were Paulo Lopez in the toddler boys blue belt, Alexander Maranon in toddler boys red belt, Christelle Avacena in cadet girls red belt, and Manuel Machado in cadet boys brown belt.

Also securing bronze medal for the Bacolodnon taekwondo jins were Leigh Andee Rodriguez in junior women black belt (welter-light middle) and Arthur Diaz in junior men black belt (Fin-Bantam).

For Rodriguez and Diaz, this will be their third consecutive week to take home a medal each in online competition.

The two captured gold medals each in the poomsae competition of 2020 Smart/MVPSF Online National Taekwondo CPJ Championship and silver medals each in the speed kicking.

The 2020 Smart/MVP Sports Foundation National Taekwondo Inter-School Speed Kicking Championship was a two-day online taekwondo competition that took place last Dec. 5 and 6./PN
