ILOILO City – Tropical cyclone wind signal (TCWS) No. 1 has been hoisted over Guimaras island province and central and southern portions of Panay Island as the low pressure area (LPA) spotted east of Mindanao developed into tropical depression “Vicky” yesterday.
Severe Weather Bulletin No. 3 released by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) at 11 a.m. on Friday placed Guimaras, the central and southern portions of Iloilo, and the southern portion of Antique under wind signal No. 1.
It covered Ajuy, Barotac Viejo, San Enrique, San Rafael, Passi City, Bingawan, Calinog, Lambunao, Janiuay, Banate, Anilao, Dingle, Dueñas, Badiangan, Barotac Nuevo, Zarraga, Pototan, Dumangas, Mina, New Lucena, Santa Barbara, Leganes, Iloilo City, Pavia, Cabatuan, Maasin, Alimodian, San Miguel, Leon, Oton, Tigbauan, Tubungan, Guimbal, Igbaras, Miag-ao and San Joaquin in Iloilo, and Valderrama, San Remigio, Sibalom, Hamtic, Tobias Fornier, Anini-Y, Bugasong, Laua-An, Patnongon, San Jose and Belison in Antique.
The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC), in an advisory, reminded local disaster councils to properly disseminate the necessary information to their constituents.
The public is advised to check on their houses for necessary repair, clean up their drainage, harvest crops that can be yielded, and always monitor the latest weather bulletin of Pagasa.
“This local effort will complement and reinforce efforts at the regional level. Emphasis should be on proactive actions-evacuation rather than rescue,” RDRRMC officer-in-charge Melissa Banias said in an advisory.
The RDRRMC has also convened for a pre-disaster risk assessment (PDRA) in preparation for weather disturbance. (PNA)
