Iloilo City’s Xmas present: Zero COVID cases

ILOILO City – In what could be called a “Christmas present,” this southern city notched zero new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on Dec. 25.  

This was the first time in December that no positive case was recorded in a day, according to Mayor Jerry Treñas.

“This was truly the best Christmas gift. Paskwa ini sa aton sang Mahal nga Makaako,” an elated Treñas told Panay News.

Based on the report of the City Health Office’s Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit, there were a total of 129 specimens tested for possible COVID-19 infection and all of these yielded negative results.

Of the 129 samples, 58 were processed by the Western Visayas Medical Center sub-national laboratory in Mandurriao district; Saint Paul’s Hospital of Iloilo on General Luna Street (four), Iloilo Mission Hospital in Jaro district (three); Western Visayas State University Medical Center in Jaro (41) and Metro Iloilo Hospital and Medical Center in Jaro (23).

The city logged only one confirmed COVID-19 infection each on Dec. 26 and 27.

Based on the Dec. 27 data of the Department of Health, Iloilo City had total of 4,628 COVID-19 cases – 128 were active, 4,356 recovered and 144 died./PN
