SAN JOSE, Antique – The municipality of San Remigio has reopened its premier tourism destinations to local tourists.
Resorts and other tourism spots in Barangay Aningalan as well as in the villages of Tubudan and La Union were closed on Dec. 21, 2020 due to two coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases.
Mayor Margarito Mission Jr. said these cases right away quarantined.
The Department of Health’s provincial health team leader in Antique, Dr. Rene Feman Autajay, said the first layer contacts of the COVID-19 cases turned out to be negative in their swab tests.
The second layer contacts, on the other hand, underwent home quarantine.
“We can’t wait to welcome you again so that you can enjoy the cold breeze and breathtaking views of Aningalan,” Mission posted on the town’s official website.
San Remigio’s highland of Aningalan is dubbed the “Little Baguio of Antique” due to its cool climate.
The place is frequented by local tourists to check out its Igbaclag cave and biggest flower Rafflesia, to pick strawberries, and to enjoy nature.
Mission issued Executive Order No. 155 on Dec. 21, 2020 for the temporary suspension of their acceptance of local tourists.
San Remigio is a third-class municipality. According to the 2015 census, it has a population of 31,935 people.
Almost 70 percent of its land area is mountainous and the remaining 30 percent comprise the flat lowland and rolling hills, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority. (PNA/PN)
