JORDAN, Guimaras – The provincial government of Guimaras allotted an initial P50 million for the procurement of vaccines against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Priority for the vaccination are frontliners like healthcare workers, senior citizens and other vulnerable sectors such as the immunocompromised, according to Vice Gov. John Edward Gando.
Gov. Samuel Gumarin, however, has yet to request the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) for an authority to enter into agreements with the national government and manufacturers for the vaccine procurement.
Gumarin is still discussing with the local finance committee regarding the funds needed.
The SP is ready to hold a special session should Gumarin request for an authority for vaccine procurement agreements, said Gando.
As of Jan. 11, Guimaras’ total COVID-19 cases (since recording started in March 2020) hit 248 with 242 having recovered and four dead, thus leaving the province with just two active cases left.
The two remaining cases were from the towns of Nueva Valencia and Jordan. One is currently hospitalized in Iloilo City while the other is being quarantined in the island province./PN
