20-2021 NBA: Philly escapes Heat in OT

JOEL Embiid drained season-best 45 points, Daniel Green tied franchise-record of nine triples as Philadelphia 76ers drubbed Miami Heat, 137-134, in overtime in their 2020-2021 National Basketball Association (NBA) Season at Wells Fargo Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States on Tuesday night (Wednesday in the Philippines).

Embiid did most of the damage in the second half as he ended it with 16 rebounds, five steals and four assists. Green contributed 27 markers as the 76ers halted their losing run and improved to 8-4.

Mike Scott and rookie Tyrese Maxey ended up with 16 points each, rookie Isaiah Joe and Dwight Howard chipped in 13 and 10 markers respectively for the 76ers.

Down 55-63 at the half, the 76ers relied on the exploits of Embiid and Green in the third period and took a 90-83 advantage. The Heat countered with a run to come to within 95-96 entering the fourth quarter.

In the payoff period, Philadelphia surged to a comfortable 110-98 edge following triples from Green and Maxey, but Miami turned things around to take a 120-115 edge before 76ers forced an overtime on a triple by Joe and basket by Embiid.

Embiid continued to hit the basket early in the extension period to give the 76ers a 129-126 lead. Miami stormed back to take a 130-129 edge before Dakota Mathias drained a triple and Embiid converted freebies to give the lead to the 76ers for good.

Tyler Herro ended the game with season-high 34 points, Duncan Robinson and Gabe Vincent added 26 and 24 markers respectively for the Heat (4-5).

In other results, Brooklyn Nets also ended their losing skid following a come-from-behind 122-116 triumph over Denver Nuggets via the clutch baskets of Kevin Durant and Bruce Brown.

With the score tied at 113-all, Brown and Durant converted back-to-back hits to give the Nets a 117-113 edge before Durant iced the win for the Brooklyn with a three-pointer with under a minute left.

Durant finished the match with 34 points, 13 assists and nine rebounds, Caris LeVert added 20 markers while Brown and Joe Harris contributed 16 and 15 markers respectively for the Nets (6-6).

Meanwhile, defending champions Los Angeles Lakers (9-3) manhandled Houston Rockets (3-6), 117-100; while San Antonio Spurs (6-5) walloped Oklahoma City Thunder (5-5), 112-102.
