ALTHOUGH there are only days to go, the Trumps have not invited the new tenants, the Bidens, over for a welcome cup of coffee. They will miss the opportunity to pass on important information including, “watch out for the toaster as it burns the toast most times”, “you don’t have to worry about the house plants as someone waters them for you” or “for some reasons all the TVs seem to be stuck on Fox News.”
The tradition of welcome and a respectful hand over as the Obamas, Bushes, Clintons and others have done for the last century or more is a symbolic part of the inauguration but not this time. It’s almost sad to see a negative finish to a very negative presidency when it would have been so easy to do and force a smile as probably many of the previous occupants have done.
The other departing tradition of leaving a message for the next occupant in an envelope will be interesting. It will probably say, “I’ll be back” but without the accent or credibility.
It might be written with the big black marker or a crayon which might symbolize childish behavior.
Leave in peace but please, leave the political world.

Money down the toilet
Sometimes it’s hard to get to the bottom of a government spending story but not in this case.
The Secret Service has been spending $3,000 a month on toilet facilities as a consequence of protecting Ivanka Trump and her family.
Ivanka’s house apparently has six toilets, one for her, her husband and one each for her three children leaving one spare for the secret service but no, they were not allowed to use it.
Of course, cleaning five toilets would have been enough work for Ivanka, or her husband so I can understand why she wouldn’t want to include the sixth toilet on the daily cleaning list.
Some people live in a different world from most, a very privileged, entitled one. It seemed a crap way to treat the Secret Service.

Is Donald Trump the worst US President ever?
As anyone’s time comes to a finish there are reflections on what have been achieved and now a number of people are looking at the Trump Presidency and trying to decide if it is the worst ever. The general consensus is yes!
Perhaps this should be put out to a national poll. I am sure this time we would actually find that President Trump would receive the most votes.

A signature of the times
Nancy Pelosi has signed the second Trump impeachment document and finally it’s not fake news that Donald Trump has achieved something no other president has.
When you see the document it is clear that the signature is small and the words are of massive importance whereas with recent executive orders, the signature is massive and the words are of a small importance.
Most people want to return to a world where troubles are small and happiness is massive. This should start in less than a week.

No tube
YouTube has banned Donald Trump’s channel from uploading new content as have most social media platforms.
Does this include all of those parodies where he looks deranged or rants about the election being stolen from him?
Oops, sorry it appears they aren’t actually parodies, they are real. (dfitzger@melbpc.org.au/PN)
