MANILA – Iloilo Doctors’ College secondary girls’ volleyball team standout Shauntell Nicole Pido remains unsure whether to try her luck in Manila or proceed with her plan in moving to Guam.
In an interview with the Iloilo Sports LANG podcast on Sunday evening, the Iloilo City-native Pido said her family has not yet decided regarding entertaining offers from Manila-based schools.
Pido said her elder sister Princess Pido – a former player of Southwestern University in Cebu and a beach volleyball player – served as her inspiration.
While her dream schools remain to be the University of Santo Tomas and Ateneo de Manila University, she will be open to play for any school that will give her the opportunity.
“But, if you would ask me, I wanted to try my luck in Manila. It was my dream to be able to play there, just like my idol Alyssa Valdez. I grew up watching the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles, so I am also hoping to be part of that school,” the 14-year-old Ilongga said.
Pido was supposed to be part of the Western Visayas Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) team that will compete in last year’s edition of the National PRISAA, but the tourney was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“It was very unfortunate because it could have been my first time to represent Iloilo in a competition like National PRISAA,” Pido said. “But I still consider it as the biggest achievement of my career so far.”/PN
