MANILA – PLDT Home Power Fibr is powering up for the 2021 volleyball season, acquiring players who will help the team grab the championship bag especially in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) this year.
The Negrense volleybelle Christine Joy Soyud leads the seven recruits that will bolster the PLDT Home Fibr Power Hitters in the upcoming league.
Soyud, who formerly plays for De La Salle University Lady Spikers and Adamson University Lady Falcons, was one of the three players who jumped to Power Hitters from Generika-Ayala Lifesavers.
It was also a PVL homecoming of sorts for opposite spiker Soyud at Power Hitters after suiting up before for Motolite Power Builders until her PVL move with Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors and Lifesavers.
Also teaming up with the La Carlota Occidental-native Soyud are Toni Rose Basas and Yeye Gabarda who took a leave in the Philippine Superliga (PSL) this year; Maria Lina Molde and Maristela Layug who both forego their final year of eligibility at the University of the Philippines; and former San Beda University standout Nieza Viray.
The team also acquired the services of former University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses setter Rhea Dimaculangan.
These seven new recruits are teaming up with PLDT holdovers Shola Alvarez, Jorelle Singh, Aiko Urdas, Joyce Sta. Rita, Vira Guillema, Negrense Kath Villegas and libero Alyssa Eroa.
“Malaking bagay ‘yan kasi ‘yung experience nila, malaking maitutulong sa atin. Sa mga pinaggalingan nila na team, nagagamit sila at malaki yung nakuha nila na exposure noon,” said PLDT head coach Roger Gorayeb.
“Sana mabitbit nila yun sa amin, talagang mafi-fill nila yung gap ng nawala sa amin plus malaki pa sila at bata pa sila,” added the many-time National Collegiate Athletic Association and PVL champion coach./PN
