BACOLOD City – Floodwaters brought by incessant rains submerged several low-lying barangays in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental over the weekend.
The city’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said barangays 1, 5, Buluangan, Palampas, Punao, and Rizal experienced flooding.
Water level at the Palampas River also rose to critical levels, prompting preemptive evacuation of residents around 9 p.m. on Sunday.
Evacuees were moved to the Ramon Magsaysay Elementary School in the city where they spent the night until floodwaters subsided the next morning.
The DRRMO also monitored ankle-deep flooding on the national highway and circumferential road.
As of Monday, no casualty was reported.
Mayor Renato Gustilo ordered the city’s Engineering Department to clean waterways and drainage systems. The areas up for clearing are those along St. Charles Subdivision in the city’s Barangay 1./PN
