MANILA – Veteran forward Vic Manuel is staying with Alaska Aces.

Weeks after asking the Aces management to trade him out, the one-time Gilas Pilipinas big man has agreed to sign a new contract with the team according to his agent Danny Espiritu.

“We are almost done on a (new) contract for Vic,” Espiritu said in an interview with PBA.ph. “In a matter of days, maybe next week, we will sign the deal.”

Espiritu did not reveal the terms of the new contract but sources said the new deal for the former Philippine School of Business Administration star is a maximum deal for two years.

Manuel initially wanted a fresh three-year deal but Alaska only offered a two-year pact with a team option on the second year. The option forced the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) veteran to request a trade from his team.

According to reports, Aces management talked to other teams such as Meralco Bolts, NorthPort Batang Pier, and NLEX Road Warriors for a possible trade but those talks did not pan out.

Meanwhile, the Aces is also close to a new deal with former De La Salle University Green Archers star Jeron Teng, whose contract expired at the end of the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup.

Alaska has also made room for the upcoming PBA Rookie Draft, where they owned the seventh pick overall and a couple of second-round rights by letting go of veterans like Yutien Andrada, Abel Gallinguez, and Jesper Ayaay who moved to Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings./PN
