BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental’s Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson signed a memorandum turning over the district hospitals of Escalante City and Calatrava town to their respective local government units (LGUs).
In an interview with the press yesterday, Lacson said he had a discussion with Escalante City’s Mayor Melecio Yap Jr. and Calatrava’s Mayor Marilyn Era, and both signified their preparedness in operating the district hospitals.
“Both of them admitted it would be a challenge but they are up to the task,” Lacson said.
The provincial government will continue to provide support until the facilities “could stand on their own,” he added.
Lacson said some of the hospital personnel in Escalante City and Calatrava opted to continue working for the provincial government. Hence, he allowed them to be transferred to other capitol-run hospitals.
The Escalante City and Calatrava LGUs would be allowed to hire their own hospital personnel./PN
