BACOLOD City – The city plans to renovate the vendor’s plaza in Barangay 12 following the recent dismantling of a suspected drug den inside its premises.

According to City Administrator Em Ang, the vendor’s plaza along with the Burgos, Central and Libertad public markets are up for rehabilitation.

However, early renovation plans were hampered due to the coronavirus pandemic, Ang said,

“[It was] delayed because part of the budget was redirected to managing the pandemic,” she added.

Ang emphasized that the projects “are still a go,” adding that the city would be able to start the rehabilitation works again.

On Monday, personnel of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency seized eight sachets of suspected shabu valued at P45,000 from the suspected drug den.

Elly Alcantara, village chief of Barangay 12, said they will demolish all illegal structures located below the market stalls, as “they are being used as drug dens.”/PN
