ILOILO City – The surge in cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in this southern city is derailing this year’s Iloilo Bike Festival supposedly scheduled on April 9 to 11.
Mayor Jerry Treñas said the festival will be moved to a later date. He, however, has yet to decide on the new schedule.
The annual Iloilo Bike Festival is one of the biggest biking events in the country.
The yearly event promotes healthy living, and takes on a special meaning in this time of pandemic.
Iloilo City is logging an average of 15 cases daily this month, or 66.57 percent higher than the average of nine cases daily in February.
From Feb. 1 to 28, the city recorded 265 cases, data from the City Health Office (CHO) – City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) showed.
On the other hand, from March 1 to 28, 414 cases were logged, or an increase of 56.26 percent.
During the first week of March, there were 66 coronavirus cases recorded in the city followed by 74 cases on the second week (12.12 percent increase); 211 cases in the third week (185.14 percent increase); and 63 cases in the fourth week (70.14 percent decrease)./PN
