BUENAVISTA, Guimaras – “The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic still exists.”
Mayor Eugenio Reyes had to remind residents here of this fact because he feared a possible spread of the disease if they let their guard down this Holy Week.
Health protocols must be observed at all times, he stressed, such as the wearing of facemask and face shield, physical distancing and proper washing of hands.
On March 25, Reyes issued Executive Order No. 022, Series of 2021 (“An order providing guidelines/policies in the observance of the 2021 Lenten Season”).
He is allowing religious gatherings, which may include masses. However, a maximum of 50 percent of the venue’s capacity must be strictly followed.
Reyes prohibited devotional processions, including the Via Crucis (Way of the Cross), up to Easter Sunday.
He also banned the traditional Visita Iglesia or church visits and the home visitations by the “apostles”.
Reyes said the ban on large gatherings should help curb the spread of COVID-19.
As this was being written, Buenavista only had two active COVID-19 cases. They were taken to the town’s quarantine cemter./PN
