ILOILO City – The additional 7,200 doses of CoronaVac vaccines for Western Visayas that arrived on March 30 have already been distributed to the region’s provinces and highly urbanized cities.
This latest supply was part of the 400,000 more doses China donated to the Philippines, according to Dr. Jane Juanico, spokesperson of the Department of Health (DOH) in Region 6.
Iloilo province got the biggest allocation – 3,426 doses.
Antique received 1,345 doses; Iloilo City, 1,052; Guimaras, 527; Aklan, 486; and Capiz, 364.
These vaccines will be given to more healthcare workers in the region.
As of March 28, 90.59 percent of the total 29,189 doses of Sinovac and AstraZeneca vaccines have already been used, data from the DOH-6 showed.
Also, a total of 26,442 healthcare workers in the region have received their first dose of either the Sinovac or AstraZeneca vaccines, as of the said date.
The number of hospital workers vaccinated so far was 27.9 percent of the 94,770 master-listed eligible healthcare workers in the region.
In Iloilo City, 222 doses of COVID-19 vaccines were rolled out to frontliners at the John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University in Arevalo district here yesterday.
According to Mayor Jerry Treñas, a total of 832 COVID-19 vaccines have been rolled out for this city.
“As the cases spike in other areas of the country, it is important that we can shield those who are directly serving our patients to avoid compromising their health and avoid transmission. We continually contact pharmaceutical companies to ensure that those willing to be vaccinated will be given protection,” the city mayor said.
The regional office earlier reiterated that it follows the prioritization framework in identifying who receives the COVID-19 vaccines first considering the scarcity of supply in the global market./PN
