SAN LORENZO, Guimaras – A 19-year-old lass was declared “dead on arrival” at the Dr. Catalino G. Nava Provincial Hospital in Jordan, Guimaras after family members fished her body out of the sea in Barangay Suclaran here past 4 p.m. on April 3, Black Saturday.
Renalyn Santero was a resident of Barangay San Isidro, Jaro, Iloilo City. She went swimming here with friend Alpe Eluriaga, 23, and the latter’s 13-year-old niece.
According to the San Lorenzo police station, a huge wave suddenly hit the three and pulled them away from the shore and toward the deeper portion of the sea.
Eluriaga and her niece were able to swim back to shore but not Santero. They shouted for help.
Rescue volunteers managed to retrieve Santero from the sea. But she eventually died./PN
