Warriors stun Bucks on Oubre’s freebies

MANILA – Kelly Oubre Jr. drained marginal free throws as Golden State Warriors stunned Milwaukee Bucks, 122-121, in the 2020-2021 NBA Season on Tuesday night (Wednesday in the Philippines) at Chase Center in San Francisco, California.

Trailing 121-120 following a basket by Bucks’ Jrue Holiday, Oubre swished two freebies from a foul by Brook Lopez to put the Warriors on top, 122-121, with seven seconds left.

Oubre finished the match with 19 points, including four triples, to go along with six rebounds and two steals as the Warriors snapped its three-game losing skid to improve to a 24-27 win-loss slate.

Stephen Curry led the way with 41 points, including five outside conversions while Kent Bazemore, James Wiseman, and Jordan Poole added 18, 13, and 10 markers, respectively, for the Warriors.

Down to 103-113 with over four minutes left, Oubre converted back-to-back triples while Curry followed it up with a layup and a three-pointer to pull the Warriors to within 114-116.

Baskets by Andrew Wiggins, Bazemore, and Curry gave Golden State a 120-117 lead before Milwaukee took the lead for the last time on two free throws by Khris Middleton and a Jrue Holiday basket.

Holiday top-scored with 29 points; Middleton added 28 markers; and Jeff Teague, Bobby Portis, and Thanasis Antetokounmpo have 15, 13, and 10 markers, respectively, as the Bucks fell to 32-18.

Defending champions Los Angeles Lakers (32-19) vented its ire on Toronto Raptors (20-31) with a 110-101 beating. Talen Horton-Tucker top-scored with 17 points for Lakers.

Meanwhile, Philadelphia 76ers (35-16) scored a 106-96 victory over Boston Celtics (25-26) to move up to a share of the top spot in the East. Joel Embiid tallied 35 points for the 76ers.

In other results, Atlanta Hawks (27-24) edged New Orleans Pelicans (22-28), 123-107; Chicago Bulls (21-28) defeated Indiana Pacers (22-27), 113-97; Memphis Grizzlies (25-23) beat Miami Heat (25-26), 124-112; Los Angeles Clippers (34-18) maul Portland Trail Blazers (30-20), 133-116; and Denver Nuggets (32-18) trip Detroit Pistons (15-36), 134-119.
