PANDAN, Antique – The local government here announced the town’s first death due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). This was also its 13th case of the viral disease.
According to Mayor Plaridel Sanchez VI, the patient was a 66-year-old male medical frontliner from Barangay Baybay and was known to have comorbidities.
The patient had possible close contact with Patient No. 11 and started showing symptoms on April 10.
He was rushed to a hospital in Iloilo City due to chest pains on April 13. He eventually died.
Sanchez appealed to those who have been to the Tugon Medical Hospital from April 6, 6 p.m. onwards to contact their local Barangay Health Emergency Response Team (BHERTs) for testing. The patient who died worked at the said hospital.
Sanchez also advised those experiencing symptoms similar to COVID-19’s to immediately isolate themselves and contact the Municipal Health Office.
The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, tiredness, and dry cough.
Some patients may have aches and pains, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat or diarrhea. These symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually. Some people become infected but don’t develop any symptoms and don’t feel unwell.
He encouraged his constituents to remain calm as containment and preventive measures are being done, and to keep on following the minimum health standards./PN
