Talisay City scores 5-0 in VisMin Super Cup

MANILA – MJAS Zenith-Talisay City Aquastars concluded the first round of the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup-Visayas Leg undefeated after an 85-65 triumph against Tabogon Voyagers on Tuesday at the Alcantara Civic Center in Cebu.

Patrick Cabahug and Egie Boy Mojica spearheaded the attack with 13 points each as the Aquastars maintained its unblemished 5-0 win-loss slate.

Jaymar Gimpayan contributed nine points and nine rebounds; Jhaymo Eguilos added eight points, seven boards, three assists, and three blocks; and Paolo Hubalde had eight assists to go with four points and four rebounds for Talisay City.

Holding to a 39-34 lead at the half, the Aquastars dominated the game in the third quarter as it outscored the Voyagers, 28-10, behind Cabahug and Eguilos to build a 67-44 advantage.

Cabahug, Mojica, and Gimpayan connived on offense in the fourth quarter and widened the lead which reached its largest at 83-55.

“Even with a first-round sweep, we cannot let our guard down,” said MJAS-Talisay head coach Aldrin Morante. “‘Yung mga teams paghahandaan kami niyan kaya hindi kami puwede magkumpiyansa.”

Gayford Rodriguez gave 18 points and five rebounds while Arvie Bringas contributed 16 points and 10 boards for the Voyagers, which dropped to a 2-3 record.

Meanwhile, KCS Computer Specialist-Mandaue escaped ARQ Builders Lapu-Lapu City Heroes with a 77-66 victory to move to solo second place in the standings with a 3-1 record.  

Gryann Mendoza shone for KCS as he scored 19 points including a layup down the middle of the lane that gave his team a 71-62 lead with 2:21 minutes remaining in the match. He also grabbed 10 rebounds, issued two assists, and added a steal and three blocks.

Rhaffy Octobre chipped in 13 points including a couple of straightaway triples that sparked KCS’s breakaway in the fourth canto. The University of the Visayas product had five boards and three blocks.
