BACOLOD City – Six more Bacolodnons succumbed to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), bringing this city’s total deaths to 21 in just 23 days this month, records of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) showed.
If you’re experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, immediately seek medical attention at the Bacolod Respiratory Outpatient (BRO) Center and avail yourself of the free swab testing, according to Dr. Chris Sorongon, deputy for medical data and analysis of the EOC.
“The kind of COVID-19 we are experiencing now is highly transmissible and highly contagious because we have experienced it in our home,” Sorongon shared. “All of my family members including me had been infected.”
Most of the fatalities belonged to the 50 years old and above age group. Some were persons with comorbidities.
Bacolod’s youngest death was a baby less than one year old.
According to the World Health Organization, the most common symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, dry cough and fatigue.
Other symptoms that are less common and may affect some patients include:
* loss of taste or smell
* nasal congestion
* conjunctivitis (also known as red eyes)
* sore throat
* headache
* muscle or joint pain
* different types of skin rash
* nausea or vomiting
* diarrhea
* chills or dizziness
In another development, 350 senior citizens in this city received their initial doses of the China-made CoronaVac vaccine against COVID-19 in five simultaneous vaccination rollouts yesterday.
The City Health Office led the inoculation of the 150 senior citizens vaccinated at the lobby of the Bacolod City Government Center, while 200 senior citizens got their anti-coronavirus jabs in four vaccination centers in barangays Villamonte, Mandalagan, Vista Alegre, and Singcang-Airport.
For crowd control and physical distancing protocols, those who want to be vaccinated must pre-register first. Walk-ins are not allowed.
“This vaccination is our only way out of this pandemic and the means to restart our economic recovery,” Mayor Evelio Leonardia earlier said.
