MANILA – KCS Computer Specialist-Mandaue City rallied past Tabogon Warriors to seize an 82-71 victory in the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup, Wednesday at the Civic Center in Cebu.
Mandaue City now occupies the second spot in the Visayas leg of the tournament with a 7-2 slate.
Steve Castro had the best game of his pro career with 16 points while Gryann Mendoza tallied 19 points.
Gileant Delator chipped in 11 points and five rebounds for Mandaue City. Monic Soliva also hit double-figures on offense with 10 points, five rebounds, and four assists.
The nine-man squad Tabogon cruised to a 25-23 lead at the start of the game. Mandaue then leaned on Castro’s scoring spree to build a 49-29 halftime advantage.
The team widened the lead to 61-32 in the second half but Tabogon trimmed the deficit to just seven points, 62-69, in the fourth quarter. Mandaue, however, responded with power shots from Mendoza, Castro, and Delator to seal the victory.
“It’s about time that Steve Castro gets his breakout game kay since the start sa league, siya ang pinaka consistent and giving quality minutes for the team,” said KCS assistant coach Jabby Bautista.
Arvie Bringas top-scored with 19 points, and Christian Diaz and Richmond Bersabal have 12 markers each for Tabogon as it tasted its third defeat and dropped to 3-6 in the standings.
