SAN REMIGIO, Antique – Mayor Margarito “Mar” Canja Mission Jr. tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
He was deemed a “second layer” contact of a confirmed case last week, the mayor revealed in a statement, so he quarantined himself and underwent an antigen test that initially found him negative for the disease.
“I was discharged from quarantine but after a few days I started showing symptoms,” according to Mission.
He thus underwent reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test and this time the result was positive for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.
“Thankfully, I am only feeling mild symptoms at the moment and therefore will continue to perform all my executive functions and duties while I am quarantined,” according to Mission.
The Municipal Health Office already completed tracing and contact individuals that the mayor may have had close contact with.
“As many of us now realize, COVID-19 is an ongoing and evolving pandemic. My positive result is a lesson to everyone that we should not let our guard down under any circumstances. We should all continue to observe the recommended health protocols,” stressed Mission.
He cited the town’s “tireless frontliners for their dedication and bravery.”
“I also request all my beloved San Remigionhons to pray for their safety. May our loving God envelop them in His loving protection as they selflessly perform their duties, and may His healing mercy touch all those afflicted by the virus,” Mission added./PN
