Most COVID deaths recorded in 3 Iloilo towns

ILOILO – Of the 42 municipalities and one component city in this province, the towns of Pavia, Barotac Nuevo and Oton had the most number of residents who died of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), data from the Provincial Health Office (PHO) showed.

As of yesterday, May 5, Pavia recorded 16 fatalities due to the viral disease, PHO records revealed. It was followed by Oton and Barotac Nuevo with 14 deaths each.

Other coronavirus casualties were recorded in Santa Barbara with 10; Cabatuan, Banate, Pototan, and Leganes with eight each; Passi City with seven; Estancia, San Miguel and Guimbal with six each; Lambunao and Dingle with five each; San Joaquin, Dumangas, Barotac Viejo, and Sara with four each; Tigbauan, San Enrique,  Alimodian, Miag-ao, Calinog, and Igbaras with three each; Janiuay, Anilao, Maasin, Badiangan, Ajuy, Leon, and Batad with two each; and Zarraga, San Dionisio, Lemery, Concepcion, Balasan, and Carles with one each.

Six towns – New Lucena, Dueñas, San Rafael, Mina, Tubungan, and Bingawan – logged no coronavirus deaths.

As of yesterday, Iloilo had 175 total COVID-19 deaths – 102 of which were persons with comorbidities.

Total coronavirus cases in this province also reached 6,183 (396 active, 5,612 recovered and 175 deaths) as of May 5.  

To prevent COVID-19 spread which may lead to more deaths, Dr. Maria Socorro Colmenares-Quiñon, acting PHO head, said the public must continue observing minimum health protocols such as washing of hands, wearing of facemask and social distancing.  

“Never be complacent about the pandemic,” Quiñon said.

She encouraged the public to stay home unless in cases of emergency or important transactions./PN
