BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental’s Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson will be consulting local chief executives on the possible enforcement of a lockdown in areas with high number of active coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases.

During last year’s lockdown financial assistance was provided by the national government; it was distributed by local government units (LGUs) among their constituents, he said.

According to Lacson, said they would make sure that some matters – like the LGUs’ financial capability if ever a lockdown is imposed – are resolved.

Eleven LGUs in Negros Occidental had active triple digit COVID-19 cases as of May 5.

San Carlos City was on top of the list with 346 active cases, followed by La Carlota City with 195; Bago City with 158; and the cities of Himamaylan and Silay with 147 cases.

Total COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in 2020 to May 5, 2021 stood at 12,462 – 9,616 recovered and 281 dead./PN
