Fish port guard survives assassination

ILOILO City – A security guard of the Iloilo Fish Port Complex (IFPC) here survived a Monday night assassination attempt by masked riding-in-tandem gunmen in Barangay Buray, Oton, Iloilo.

Fifty-five-year-old Erwin Jordan of Barangay Bakhaw, Mandurriao district sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder.

According to Police Corporal Raymund Dollete, Oton police station investigator, Jordan was homebound around 6:15 p.m. after accompanying a co-worker home in Barangay Buray’s Sta. Felomina Subdivision.

There was an ongoing road construction in the area so Jordan had to slow down, Dollete added.

It was when a motorcycle stopped next to the driver’s side and its back rider fired a shot.

“(Jordan) was able to drive his car despite his wound and sought help from a nearby Bureau of Fire Protection office,” Dollete said.

The masked suspects were wearing black jackets and helmets then fled toward Tigbauan town, the police added.

As this was being written, policemen of Oton have yet to identify the gunmen. They also cannot get a hold of Jordan as he was undergoing surgery at the Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao.

MOTIVE IN THE ATTACK

Investigators said the shooting may be related to the death of his fish port colleague Glen Peremne, or may be due to a “love triangle.”

Jordan was among the “persons of interest” in the death of the 42-year-old Peremne – IFPC’s head of the health and sanitation team, according to Police Captain Shella Mae Sangrines, spokesperson of the Iloilo City Police Office.

Prior to his death, it was reported that Peremne had a verbal tussle with security guards.

A case, however, has not filed yet due to lack of evidence, Sangrines said.

Peremne was gunned down by riding-in-tandem suspects last month along Zone 5, Barangay San Juan, Molo district./PN
