Exciting week!

WE HAD rains two nights in a row early this week. By Wednesday morning, our entire neighborhood was flooded. Way to go! But I am not ranting. It’s a waste of energy. Thank God by Wednesday evening, the water subsided. So, we were able to sleep soundly amidst the chaos in the house, haha! Note to self: Buy rubber boots. Do it now!

Politics in General Santos City is getting intense. I can feel it! Don’t worry folks, I don’t support a party. I pick my candidates carefully and even endorse them individually. So, when the time comes, I will tell you who I pick. Then you can support my choice (smile).

Monday this week, marked the beginning of my live video appearance in Kwentas Klaras, many thanks to the main anchorperson Ted Ayeng for the innovation and for being internet-savvy!

I am co-hosting every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 9:00-10:00 A.M. over Radio Station DYTR Bohol.

Kwentas Klaras is a Public Affairs Program that tackles relevant community issues and concerns including national topics that impact our daily lives. It is a platform for advocacy, education, good governance, values revisit, and love of community and country.

Interestingly, I have turned one year in Kwentas Klaras this week – May 18, 2021, to be exact. Imagine! My engagement started during the pandemic last year and here we are, one year after! I want to thank the following of the radio program for welcoming me and supporting my broadcast pursuit in Bohol.

I am doubly supportive of cousins who are passionate about good governance and thereafter invited to run for public office. Why not? We keep on criticizing the present crop of politicians and yet, when offered to run, we decline for a variety of reasons.

Well, for starters, the first obstacle is almost always money. But if we make money the No. 1 reason for shying away, what good will that do us? We will never be able to provide an alternative set of quality leaders if we keep on using money or the lack of it as the No. 1 reason for stepping back or worse, declining.

If we do so, we are back to the “usual candidates”. I am even tired of writing about them. Let’s just get on with it and take a step of faith!

Second semester is about to end. I have one more final examination to take and then I can focus on my editorial engagement. I’m so grateful the editorial work came after I have forwarded in advance all the ASEAN 203 required submissions for May 2021. It gave me leeway to begin editing manuscripts this month except for the ASEAN 202 final exam set next week.

All is good so far. Here’s hoping I can keep my grades up, haha!

Back to the coffee table book. The best part about editing is getting to know the personalities, the pioneers, and the legends behind an industry or organization. In the case of Bohol I Electric Cooperative, Inc. (BOHECO I), I learned about the pioneers and the legends, the early beginnings, the milestones, the triumphs, the challenges, the direction, and the nitty-gritty of the organization that when lumped together make the electric cooperative what it is today – a success story.

The challenge is to give justice to this editorial engagement not only to flesh out my passion, but more importantly, to honor the memory of my ancestor: Atty. Getulio D. Calope, first general manager of BOHECO I.

While at ancestors, I would like to point out also that an uncle Engr. Jose R. Lungay of Catigbian, Bohol – son of my Lolo Cresing Lungay’s eldest brother, the former Catigbian Mayor Hilario A. Lungay, was one of the incorporators of BOHECO I.

As incorporator, Tío Pito or Uncle Pete as he was fondly called by our “Alay-Ano Clan” served as Director of the BOHECO I Board.

Tío Pito married the beautiful Amelia Galicia Lungay. The couple had eleven kids – my equally beautiful and handsome cousins – namely Joelle L. De los Reyes, Noel Jose – deceased at eleven months, Father Jose Roel, Frances L. Laguitao, Caroline L. Rubillar, Ma. Fatima L. Pelias, Ferdimar Hilario, Marvin Jesus, Ira Loisa L. Penarejo, Michael Martino, and Jennifer L. Halasan.
