IPPO to enforce temporary halt of tourism ops, establishments

ILOILO – The Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) will strictly enforce the provincial government’s executive order (EO) suspending operations of resorts, beaches and other tourism establishments in this province beginning today until May 31, according to Police Colonel Gilbert Gorero, IPPO director.

Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. ordered the temporary closure to address the rising cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) here.

Gorero said as a member of the provincial inter-agency task force, the IPPO plays a vital role in the enforcement together with the local government unit (LGU) and barangay officials.

“I have directed all my police chiefs to visit tourist, recreation and accommodation areas to monitor,” Gorero said.   

Among the areas and operations temporarily suspended by the government are the following:  the operation/use of facilities/venues/ areas for recreation and leisure (such as, swimming pools, cottages, beaches, playgrounds, game rooms, function rooms, dining halls, food stations, bars and dance halls) of tourism, recreation and accommodation establishments (such as, beach resorts, inland resorts, water parks, amusement parks, ecological parks, hotels, tourist inns, motels, pension houses, apartment hotels, private homes used for homestay, ecolodges, serviced apartments, condotels, and bed and breakfast establishments) shall be suspended.

Gorero said violators shall be dealt with in accordance with existing policies.

“We have to implement this EO to prevent us from getting infected with COVID-19. I am warning the public to follow and avoid gatherings,” Gorero added./PN
