WV logs 532 new single-day high in COVID cases

ILOILO City – Western Visayas recorded its new highest number of positive cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in one day yesterday – 532.

COVID-19 Regional Case Bulletin No. 420 of the Department of Health (DOH) showed Negros Occidental with highest recorded cases on May 21 with 155, of which 137 were local cases while 18 were Locally Stranded Individuals (LSIs).

Bacolod City came in second with 151, of which 144 were local cases, four LSIs and three were Authorized Persons Outside Residence (APORs).

Iloilo City, meanwhile, tallied 77 cases composed of 66 local cases, seven returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs), and four APORs, while Iloilo province recorded 58 local cases and one LSI.

Capiz recorded 57 local cases; Aklan, 27; Guimaras, four; and Antique, two.

The 532 confirmed cases were out of the total tests done by 15 out of 18 total authorized laboratories in Region 6, bringing the total active cases in the region to 5,704.

According to the DOH Region 6, 63.85 percent of the active cases were asymptomatic; 32.15 percent were mild; 1.44 percent were moderate; 2.49 percent were severe; and 0.07 percent were critical.

Yesterday’s regional bulletin also showed 127 recovered cases, bringing the total to 35,758 while deaths due to COVID-19 rose to 1,038 with addition of seven new casualties.

On the other hand, of the 5,704 total active cases in the region, Negros Occidental accounted for 1,780 followed by Bacolod City (1,166), Iloilo City (919), Iloilo Province (683), Aklan (429), Capiz (413), Antique (243), and Guimaras (71)./PN
