ILOILO City – Mayor Jerry Treñas ordered the temporary closure of the city hall effective today, May 24.
The closure will give way to a thorough decontamination of the edifice and the mass testing of the city government’s workforce.
From May 1 to 22, the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) recorded 26 confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) including two mortalities among city hall employees.
“To halt (COVID-19) transmission, holistic, proactive and exhaustive measures must be undertaken,” Treñas stressed.
Based on the CESU data, the city hall infections were from the following:
* City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) – seven cases
* City Treasurer’s Office – five cases, with one death
* City Agriculturist’s Office – four cases
* Compliance Field Office and City Engineer’s Office – two cases each
* City Assessor’s Office, Transportation Management and Traffic Regulation Office (TMTRO), Chief of Staff Office, General Services Office, City Health Office, and Department of Interior and Local Government Contact Tracer – one case each
“(COVID-19’s) high risk transmission continues to imperil particularly those who have yet to be inoculated due to the limited supply of vaccine doses,” said Treñas.
Yesterday, Iloilo City’s active COVID-19 cases rose to 981 (with 42 new cases recorded), data from the Department of Health (DOH) Region 6 showed.
Treñas said the surge in infections is overwhelming hospitals./PN
