Rebel surrenders to Culasi police

CULASI, Antique – Tired and hungry for always being on the run, a 60-year-old member of the New People’s Army (NPA) surrendered to the police and military in Sitio Canapay, Barangay Caridad here at about 5:30 p.m. on May 21.

The rebel belonged to the Northern Front-Komiteng Rehiyon Panay and a resident of Sebaste, Antique.

He was listed in the 1990 Order of Battle (OB) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

The surrenderer said he participated in many NPA offensives such as the following:

* harassment of the of the Citizens Armed Forces Geographical Unit in Barangay Bitadton, Culasi in 1986

* hijacking of a 10-wheeler truck loaded with prime commodities in Barangay Naba, Culasi

* encounter with the 47th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army in 1996 in Barangay Bitadton, Culasi

The rebel also surrendered a homemade .38 revolver with four live ammunitions and 10 live ammunition of a .60 machine gun.

He would be endorsed to the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) to help him in his return to the society./PN
