ILOILO City – Missing Ilongga beauties garbed in Ilonggo-tailored gowns for the sagala procession of Santacruzan Ciudad de Iloilo?
Unfortunately, for the second straight year there will be no Santacruzan, according to City Tourism Officer Junel Divinagracia, due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
Santacruzan Ciudad de Iloilo is among the highly-anticipated events every month of May as part of the Flores de Mayo celebration that honors the Blessed Virgin Mary.
What makes Santacruzan Ciudad de Iloilo stand out from the Santacruzans of other cities and towns is the fact that the gowns worn by the muses – mostly reigning queens from different beauty pageants inside and outside of Iloilo – are delicately made by local designers.
In 2019, 42 stunning Ilonggas showcased the creations of talented Western Visayan fashion designers.
But more than being a tourist attraction, the Department of Tourism (DOT) said the Santacruzan here is a way to relive the faith among Catholics./PN
