KALIBO, Aklan – Mayor Emerson Lachica shut down three municipal offices yesterday, May 28 – the Municipal Planning and Development Office, Human Resource and Management Office and the Office of the Municipal Mayor.
Five employees in Lachica’s office tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). They were high-risk contacts of an employee who earlier tested for the virus.
“Na-infect sila sa aming pantry sa opisina. Doon sila kumakain. May close contacts na nahawaan din, pati ang kapatid ko,” Lachica said.
The wife of a Sangguniang Bayan member assigned in the Human Resource and Management Office also contracted COVID-19.
Lachica said the offices would remain staffed with a skeletal workforce while disinfection and contact tracing were ongoing.
“The offices have been closed as a safety measure,” he explained.
The mayor encouraged Kalibo residents to follow health protocols — facemask wearing and social distancing.
He also extended the curfew hours – now from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.
To date, Kalibo recorded 71 active COVID-9 cases and 24 deaths./PN
