MANILA – Negros Occidental and Iloilo City-based taekwondo jins have a stunning performance during the recently held 2021 Smart/MVP Sports Foundation Online National Taekwondo Speed Kicking Championships.
The Negros Taekwondo Union-Tigers New Gen bagged 20 medals – seven gold, seven bronze, and six silver medals – in the online competition.
Those who captured the gold medals were Christelle Avanceña, Julio Miguel Zapata, Jerik Joseph Paiwas, Wynnona Kiarra Chavez, Francine Launio, Ianne Rose Treyes, and El John Alinar.
Christophe Avanceña, Alexander Marañon, Jaden Barroquillo, Gadiel Lopez, Leigh Andee Rodriguez, and Arthur Diaz seized silver medals for the team.
Cydric Roja, Jared Sevilleno, Cipriano Lumanog, Nieka Ferrer, Charlize Florentino, Josh Montessino, and Cypher Rojas, meanwhile, settled for bronze.
“Another job well done. Their ability to thrive allows them to grow in their Taekwondo spirit and produce results. It is also all because of their hardwork and the undying support of the parents,” said NTU-Tiger New Gen coach Jean Pierre Sabido.
The Iloilo MVP Taekwondo Gym, on the other hand, had a strong showing in the Philippine Taekwondo Association-sanctioned tournament after taking home five gold, seven silver, and 10 bronze medals.
Ianna Gabriella Rosales led the team with a gold medal in kickpad kicking and a bronze medal in free kicking, while Angela Bermejo, Francheska Isobelle Dunton, Marielle Faye Lagamo, and Alicia Sophia Guttierez also had free kicking golds.
Pearl Danielle Rosales got two silvers in kickpad kicking and free kicking, while Jenella Ashley Tionko, Cyd Edryc Esmaña, Alyanah Julienne Tionko, Phil Caleb Regalado, James Anthony Pecayco, and Alexis Araneta reaped silver medals in free kicking.
Capturing free kicking bronzes for the team were Chris Bernie Demaolao, Jannah Ysabel Velez, Jhed Anthony Morata, Shanen Anica Feranco, Adrian Joseph Gajasan III, Anthony Benedict Planta, Shires Pastolero, Phil Andrew Margarico, Charee Marie Genecala, and Sheine Nicole de Asis./PN
